The Educational Pictures company produced the Baby Burlesk shorts, in which Shirley Temple starred during the early 1930s.
Parents were not allowed on set, and so the men behind the camera formed their own routine of child discipline. When the children misbehaved in any way they were sent to an ice box, it was small and dark and there was nowhere to sit apart from the ice.
During the production of the short films, Shirley had a bad ear infection (she had to go to the emergency room) and a series of colds due to the ice box, but had no choice but to continue working.
